Making A Difference, Giving Back {news & weddings}

A few months ago I was inspired by another photographer to do more, push harder and give back.  To go beyond just doing the best I could possibly do for my clients and to do the best I could for my community as well.  Now for every wedding my couples are going to help me help others: Being able to do what I love for a living makes me one of the lucky ones.  I’ve chosen to celebrate being lucky by giving back.  I am going to donate a portion of every wedding to a non-profit in need.  This is where my clients come in...  You get to decide which charity gets a portion from your wedding purchase.  It’s one of my ways of saying thank you for choosing Spring Smith Studios.

Rusty Rocket-  a charity near and dear to my own heart.  This non profit is all about kids and music.  www.rustyrocket.com Animal Rescue League of NH-  helping homeless animals find loving, forever homes. Jen’s Friends-  providing supplemental financial assistance and other resources to cancer patients and their families in the Mount Washington Valley. Thirst Relief International-  Whose mission is to overcome death and disease resulting from the consumption of contaminated water by providing safe, clean drinking water to those in need around the world.

My hope is that my business can make a difference in more then just my clients lives, but in the lives of kids whose school's budget cuts have taken away their music programs, a stray kitten in need of a loving home, a family who's loved one is battling cancer and a community who are desperately trying to find a way to have clean water to drink.  I know that I'm just one person but with the help of my awesome clients I'm hoping this small business can make at least a small difference.

Ally & Adam | Jackson, NH {wedding}

Ally and Adam are ideal clients.  They are the kind of clients that every photographer wants to find.  They are funny, sweet, totally head over heals in love and when we first met we just clicked.  The first thing they told me was they were getting married at Whitney's Inn.... yes please!!! Whitney's is one of my all time favorite places to shoot.  The warm, rustic, chic feel and the amaizing staff make this place a magnet for great couples.  When I met with Ally & Adam over breakfast I think it was pretty clear we were both excited.  They booked me on the spot and when saying good bye Adam said to me "we know we made the right choice becuase you are the kind of person that if we were not hiring you to shoot our wedding we'd want to invite you"  WOW!!!!  Can you ask for a more ideal client?  I think not. Ally & Adam just missed hurricane Irene and thankfully we had a beautiful day before the storm hit.  We even made it to Jackson Falls for some great portraits the day before the river went up 15+ feet and flooded half the town.

Without further ado- enjoy Ally & Adam's picture perfect wedding day.

Thank you Ally & Adam for being such great friends!!!

Fryeburg Family {lifestyle portraits}

Mr. Hibbard teaches at Fryeburg Academy and although he was never my teacher he was a name and face around FA that I saw and heard often.  Not to long ago they contacted me asking if we could do some family photos with their kids.  Well we thought an early Sept evening in the park/community garden on the FA headmaster's house grounds would be perfect.  Well the light was perfect but the bugs were not.  Who could have perdicted misquitos in early Sept?  Well thanks to hurricane Irene we got a whole new batch of them suckers and man were they out in force.  If you look closley there are lots of little white dots around these guys- those were the bugs and we all had lots of little, itchy, red dots after this session.  I think they were worth it though and I hope the Hibbards agree!

Human cabbage-patch.

Mr. Hibbard is also the tennis coach at FA- can you see the future star?

The furriest member of the family.

"show Spring your funny face"

I already ordered a sample canvas of this next one in color for my studio!

Thanks guys for being good sports and fending off the bugs!

Baby Lyla James {newborn}

This baby means the world to me.  This is the first Blend baby.  For those of you scratching your head- The Blend was my father's band back in the 70's-80's.  And this baby is the lead singer's, son's baby girl.  When I got a text message that Lyla James had been born tears started to stream down my face because of all the babies that I've know this is the first one that I've felt an instant connection to.  Her father and I grew up together- OK really he was 9 when I was born but still.  Our families were very close and he has always been more like an older brother / cousin rather then a family friend.  So obviously his daughter holds a special place in my heart. When Lyla was just four days old we made our first attempt to take some photos (and some of these were taken that first day) but she was still adjusting to her parents and surroundings so we wound up with more screaming then sleeping.  So three days later we tried again and this time she was an angel.  She was all smiles and sleepy the perfect combination for newborn photos.

 This last one tugs at my heart big time!  Laura's fingers were still a bit too swollen to wear her wedding rings so she has them on a chair around her neck. While resting on the couch with mom Lyla reached up and hooked her little pinky finger around the chain.  This little baby is the sweetest thing and trust me you'll be seeing lots of her on this blog from now on!
