Coby's 3rd Birthday

I can't believe my puppy is three today.  I know most people say things like that about their kids but Coby is as close to as kid as I've got.  Silas and I even refer to each other as Momma and Daddy when we talk to Coby- I know we are crazy. I never had a dog growing up and for the first week we had Coby I was seriously thinking I had made a mistake- how was I going to take care of this little fur ball who was so dependent on me?  Cats are easy- as long as they have a litter box, food and water you can leave for a day or two and no biggie- with a dog you've got to have a plan.  Someone to come by take him out if you go to Portland for the day, someone to dog sit if you leave town for a weekend.  Luckily we have had the best friends and family who have been more then willing to lend a hand when needed.

So today- Jacoby turns three and I'm so glad to have a dog- and honestly am trying to justify another one ;)

The Creative Habit- Twyla Tharp

I really am not a writer.  I could talk your ear off for hours on end about pretty much anything but when it comes to writing- it has just never been my thing.  I have tons of things going through my head daily and if asked to write them down, nothing, nada, zilch, somehow I draw a complete blank.  I've had a journal or diary a few different times in my life but writing was never something I was passionate about so my journals all have gaps of months or even years where I wrote nothing. I have tried to strengthen my writing skills.  Everyone says just write more often and you'll get better.  I'm trying to write more often but without a passion for it sometimes it feels more like a chore.  I have however redicovered a book that is bringing back my creative side and helping me rediscover ways to use my creativity outside of photography, and I'm really hoping that it will help me with my writing.

The first day of my Senior Photo class our professor assigned the book: The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp.  I was a little confused when I got the book store and found a book written by a choreographer.  How is this going to help me with photography?  I was skeptical thats for sure but the minute I opened the book I was impressed.  Not only were the words on the pages very well designed (I have a thing for typography) but the words seems to strike a cord.  Tharp's ideas about excersizing your creativity outside your normal range really gave me inspiration.

A week or so ago when thinking about my seriously lacking writing skills I found this book on my shelf and decided to re-read some of it and see if it helps- defiantly can't hurt.  I'm not sure if it has strengthened my writing skills or not but it sure has stretched my mind creatively and even if I still suck at writing at least I feel like trying.

If you are in need of a little creative boost it's well worth a read.

Ryan & Chelsey's Snowy Engagements

April 23 is not typically a date that makes you think snow storm.  Poor Ryan and Chelsey had just flown back to Maine from North Carolina for their wedding and were greeted with snow.  And not just a flurry- but a storm full of heavy wet snow.  Enough that it covered the ground in front of my house and took more then 24 hours for it to disappear again.  Don't get me wrong I love snow and I'm a fan of winter just not when it decides to come back at the end of April. Good thing both Chelsey and Ryan are originally from Maine and were not deterred by the snow.  We met up Saturday afternoon in Bridgton, ME for a cold and wet engagement session.  We did our best to find some places outside with beautiful light that would keep them out of the elements as much as possible.  First stop: this beautiful wooden covered bridge.

undefinedAt least it was big flakes so they showed up in the photos.

When I was scoping out some spots to shoot before the session I drove by this beautiful old building with a barn/garage with green doors- perfect!  Trouble was no overhang to keep the two love birds dry.  Thank goodness they were good sports and didn't mind a little snow.

I love Ryan's smile- so genuine.

It didn't hurt that the house attached to the old barn/garage was pretty cool and had a fun porch to play on.  Don't worry the house isn't actually a house anymore its a midwife birth house so it wasn't like we were hanging out on someones front porch.

One of my favorites of the day.

undefined

Another favorite- Chelsey has the model look down pat.

undefinedundefined

OK who doesn't love a blue ceiling?  I wish I had a covered porch on my house just so I could paint it blue!

undefinedundefined

Our last stop was Ryan's mother's house just outside of town.  Chelsey wanted some rustic barn photos and his mom had the perfect barn for her vision.

undefinedundefinedundefined

One of my favorite photos ever- I told Ryan to give her a kiss and then I said "no give her a REAL kiss" and he put his hand on her neck and pulled her close- SO ROMANTIC!!! Just looking at this photo I get butterflies in my tummy.

undefinedundefinedundefined I had a wonderful with with Ryan and Chelsey.  I'm glad they were good sports about the weather because I love their images and am so happy to have spent the afternoon with them.

Classic Musicals

I have a thing for musicals.  What can I say I love dancing, singing and a love story.  Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady have been two of my favorites for years.  When I was a little girl I had both of these fantastic musicals on VHS and watched them over and over again.  I don't have a VCR anymore so last week I decided it was time to invest in a few new DVD's. So today I'm going to drool over a young Marlon Brando and sing along "I've got a horse right hear his name is Paul Revere".

My Fair Lady is next- who wants to come over and join me?
